Lakeside Escape was a beautiful collaboration between Vella Build and our wonderful clients, resulting in a thoughtfully resolved design that blossomed into an aesthetically striking and highly functional home. It has quickly become one of our team’s favourite projects to date.

From a design perspective, the existing floor plan, ceiling heights and backyard levels presented several challenges in achieving the desired layout. As a team, we invested considerable time brainstorming and refining multiple design options to ensure our clients’ brief was met. Ultimately, by cleverly utilising the existing structure, block orientation and our collective expertise, we created a timeless design featuring a number of standout elements.

A key feature throughout the home is the extensive use of Velux skylights. These have been thoughtfully positioned in the hallways, walk-in robe, internal foyer and external entry. A particularly striking detail is two large Velux skylights set into the external entry soffit, creating a bright, welcoming approach while also providing much-needed natural light to neighbouring bedroom windows along the shared pathway. This feature is mirrored internally, with a large Velux skylight positioned directly above the foyer, enhancing the sense of space and natural light as you enter the home.

The living and dining areas are another highlight, featuring impressive 4.6-metre sliding doors on both sides. These doors open to the alfresco entertaining area at the rear and the expansive front lawn, creating uninterrupted visual flow from the front yard—perfect for watching the kids play—through the main living spaces and out to the alfresco, with the lake as a stunning backdrop. The front lawn itself is generous in size, easily capable of hosting an Australia Day cricket match.

To further enhance the indoor–outdoor lifestyle, we significantly reworked the backyard levels to create a large undercover entertaining zone complete with a built-in external kitchen and BBQ area. This space seamlessly connects to the pool and internal kitchen via a generously sized servery window, delivering the ultimate Queensland entertaining experience.

Throughout the home, we created many special retreat-style spaces. One standout is the media and reading room, which offers a tranquil setting overlooking the lake and pool. This same breathtaking outlook is shared by the master bedroom, which features an entire wall of glass joinery and a striking 90-degree frameless glass corner. The result is an abundance of natural light and a sense of openness and grandeur.

Every detail of this home reflects luxury and elegance. From the architectural design features to motorised curtains concealed behind custom Gyprock bulkheads; from high-end appliances and stunning 2-pac joinery throughout the entire home—including bedrooms and hallways—to feature aluminium fence inserts, gates, entry pavilion and screening. Floor-to-ceiling tiles grace all wet areas, including toilets, and the attention to detail continues with practical inclusions such as a reinforced loft storage area above the garage, accessed via a folding ladder.

Despite the scale and complexity of this renovation, the project was delivered in an exceptional timeframe and finished to Vella Build’s signature high-end standard.
